Additive manufacturing is commonly associated with innovative construction and quite easily linked with a more sustainable way of building. This presentation wants to explore the condition when additive construction is effectively contributing to sustainable construction and when the quest for novelty is hindering the need for sustainability. We will focus mainly on the environmental aspect of sustainability looking at recent work on Life Cycle Assessment of various technology, but we also want to shed the light on the socio-economic consequences of the development of additive manufacturing in the built environment.
