“We bought a 3D printer relatively early on, the first generation of Makerbots. We used it to build real setups because things could be implemented quickly with it. The starting signal for our involvement with additive manufacturing in the construction industry then came from a request from Prof. Knaack, asking whether we could work with others to design a robot for additive manufacturing in the construction industry,” says Dr. Claus Lenz, one of the founders of Cognition Factory. 2017 was an important year for the two founders of Cognition Factory, Dr. Claus Lenz and Thorsten Röder. From then on, the idea of bringing AI and robotics to the industry was going to happen full-time. 2017 was also the year in which the ZIM innovation network “BuildingAM” was launched. One of the participants was Cognition Factory.
